Amy Stephens, Des Hughes, Laura Ford, and Will Cruickshank create works for Cure3 in aid of Cure Parkinson's fundraiser

Gallery artists Amy Stephens, Des Hughes, Laura Ford, and Will Cruickshank have been invited to create original artworks as part of a fundraising event for Cure Parkinson's.

As a call to action, art and science unite with Cure3 (Cure Cubed) the acclaimed contemporary art fundraising exhibition, established in 2017 and now in its fourth edition, devised and curated by Artwise in partnership with Bonhams to raise awareness and funds for Cure Parkinson's.

The unique concept for Cure3 centers around each artist being given a bespoke Perspex cube measuring just 20cm3 as a compact space to interact with in any way to create original artworks on or within. The resultant highly sought-after and collectable artworks are exhibited at Bonhams and sold online.

Cure Parkinson's is an inspirational and dynamic charity with a major goal to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease. To date, thanks to the generosity of all the contributing artists, Cure3 has raised over 1 million pounds fo Cure Parkinson's, to fund research to slow, stop and ultimately reverse Parkinson's.

Amy Stephen's work, Blanco (study I), 2024 is made from a piece of white, luminous marble and a cast of the same rock in bronze. The marble has millions of tiny translucent calcite crystals that allow light to penetrate a few millimetres below the surface creating a soft glow. A reflection of the marble can be seen in the highly polished bronze that sits alongside the rock. Sourced by the artist from a marble quarry in Carrara, Italy, this surplus piece of metamorphic rock bears witness to a particular stage in geological history. Extricated from its potential fate of becoming aggregate, this terrestrial wonder has been recontextualized as an object of intrinsic worth.

Will Cruickshank's piece, Thread Spectrum No.3, 2022 is a continuation of his studio research, he says: "Working to the parameters of a 20cm cube has created some interesting material challenges, as I have never worked on this scale before.  What is really nice is that it has led to a new series of works.

Much of Thread Spectrum’s appearance is born out the winding and stitching processes I have developed.  This particular one was made on an improvised winding machine using a potters wheel."
